CARLTON has gone down to Brisbane, losing by 55 points at IKON Park on Saturday night.

For the fifth time in seven matches, the Blues played against a top-eight side. In the opening quarter, the Blues held their own against the reigning Premiers, with the defenders keeping an attacking Lions at bay and conceding only one goal despite the multiple forward entries.

Brisbane were able to counter Carlton’s defensive moves in the second quarter, kicking two goals in the opening three minutes.

The Blues didn’t let that deter them however, with the home side raising the pressure and having multiple forward entries.

75-gamer Darcy Vescio also showed their leadership, kicking back-to-back forward entries after intercepting Brisbane’s kick out.

Harriet Cordner also stood up in the second half, showing her physicality against Brisbane’s Sophie Conway. Breann Moody managed to hit the scoreboard, which was the first major for the Blues.

Meg Robertson showed poise in just her third game, easily getting around her defenders and exerting defensive pressure.

Marianna Anthony successfully tagged former league best and fairest winner in Ally Anderson, keeping the Brisbane midfielder to just 19 disposals despite averaging 28 disposals coming into the game.

It was all Brisbane in the final quarter, again piling on another two goals in the opening minutes. Maddy Hendrie went off in the final quarter due to foot soreness.

Carlton will now have a seven-day break before heading to Perth to play the sixth placed Fremantle.
