CARLTON has suffered a disappointing loss to Richmond, going down by 33 points under lights at IKON Park.

The Blues had their opportunities – having six scoring shots to the Tigers’ nine – but were unable to convert when going forward in the defeat.

Both teams struggled in the conditions early, with heavy rainfall hitting IKON Park prior to the bounce.

The Blues were hit with a blow early when captain Kerryn Peterson came off the ground in the dying minutes of the first quarter from a shoulder injury, playing no further part in the game.

Carlton improved its pressure in the second term, with Keeley Sherar and Breann Moody having big defensive moments as the team got ahead in the contested possession stakes. Despite keeping the Tigers scoreless, the Blues were unable to capitalise from their own forward entries, with only the one behind to show for the term.

The second half was all Richmond, with Carlton struggling to swing the momentum.

Sherar (10 tackles), Lily Goss (nine tackles), and Brea Moody (eight tackles) showed their grit, but it wasn’t enough to stop the offensive pressure from the Tigers.

The Blues will now prepare to host last year’s Grand Finalists North Melbourne at IKON Park on Wednesday night.
