CARLTON may not have started their 2024 campaign the way they had hoped, but inaugural Blue Breann Moody isn’t too concerned by Sunday’s loss to Hawthorn.

On paper, a lot seemed to go right Blues on Sunday, having won the clearances and stoppages against a surging Hawthorn side, with the inability to capitalise inside-50 costing the Blues.

“We put the pressure on ourselves a little bit, and we couldn’t get that connection. We just didn’t do the easy things right,” Moody said.

An away trip against the SUNS couldn’t come at a better time for Carlton, with Moody welcoming the opportunity to continue to build the team’s off-field connection to translate to a better on-field connection.

“I’m excited to get away, not only does it grow our connection as a women’s playing group, but as a whole of Club,” she said.

The connection between the entire Carlton Football Club will indeed grow, with the women’s program set to fly to Brisbane later this week alongside the men’s program, who will be en route to their elimination final against the Lions.

The AFLW team will continue the journey further north to Mackay, where they’ll play their first-ever match at the Great Barrier Reef Arena.

“I think both programs are leaning into that ‘Stronger Together’ feel, it’s definitely alive at the Club,” she said.

“There’s a really strong vibe around IKON Park at the moment and we’re keen to continue that.”

Gold Coast will be entering Round 2 in a similar situation to Carlton, with the SUNS losing to the Saints by 54 points on the weekend.

As both teams look to bounce back, Moody admitted the group is only focusing on themselves.

“We won’t be worrying about them too much,” she said.

“We’ll go hard on what we’ve been training on and the gameplan that we’re trying to execute.”

While Sunday gave Moody the opportunity to line up alongside her twin sister Celine for the first time in the Navy Blue, the disappointment of the loss dampened the occasion for the sisters.

“I wish [playing alongside Celine] was under better conditions,” she said.

“We’ve been able to build a really strong connection out on the track and I’m keen to show everybody what that looks like under better circumstances.

“I definitely rather line up alongside her than against her.”
