A DEBUT season in Navy Blue built on hard work and determination has earned Elijah Hollands a new two-year deal at IKON Park.
The 22-year-old has impressed from the moment he walked into IKON Park on day one of pre-season, after arriving from the Gold Coast Suns in a deal that saw the Blues swap second-round picks (No.26 for No.28) and a future third for a future fourth-round selection.
A mindset to earn the respect of his teammates soon developed into breaking his way into Michael Voss’ side, making his club debut in fine fashion with 22 disposals, five tackles and a goal in a Round 3 win over North Melbourne.
Hollands began the year at half forward and has recently showcased his versatility by embracing a dual forward-mid role when required.
What has been equally impressive is Hollands’ ability to embrace the big stage, with five of his first 12 games for the Blues played at the MCG, in front of an average crowd of nearly 80,000 people.
Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said Hollands had made every moment count since arriving at IKON Park.
“Elijah came to the Club knowing he had to earn a spot if he wanted to play at AFL level. The way he accepted that challenge and has taken his game to another level because of it says a lot about his competitiveness and hunger to be part of this side,” Austin said.
“He’s a player who thrives in the moment and loves playing in front of that sea of Navy Blue, you can see the enjoyment on his face out there — he brings a great energy on game day.
“With only 26 AFL games under his belt, Elijah has significant growth ahead of him and with the dedication he has already shown from the moment he joined the Club, that is something for our members and supporters to be excited about in the coming years.”
