GETTING the chance to play in front of what’s currently the largest home attendance in the AFL this year is pretty cool.
But being able to do it alongside your brother is even better.
That’s exactly what Elijah and Ollie Hollands are living in 2024, with the duo lapping up the chance to play alongside one another for the first time.
Prior to his arrival at Carlton, Elijah - who had played 14 games for Gold Coast before his move to IKON Park - had played just one game with over 35,000 people. That was as the away side against the Crows at Adelaide Oval.
Now in Navy Blue, Hollands is playing in front of an average crowd of 58,332 — and all bar one of those have been alongside Ollie.
“We’re having the time of our lives at the minute,” Elijah told Triple M on the weekend.
“It’s been really exciting for us. We’ve had a good look at it in the first half of the year and it’s something that’s really enjoyable. Ollie and I both have a heap of fun playing footy.
“We’ve been able to play in front of some big crowds and had some good wins over the last few weeks, which has been really exciting.”
The two haven’t been able to spent all that much time together in recent years, with Elijah heading off to boarding school and then moving to the Gold Coast just as Ollie’s elite junior football career was setting in motion a move to Carlton.
Now that they’re at the same club, the duo have lapped up every chance to not only play alongside one another at AFL level, but also live together and - crucially - play plenty of golf together.
There may only be one person happier than the two of them with their situation at the minute — and that is, of course, dad Ben.
“He’s more excited than the both of us, he’s been going absolutely bananas.
“Footy is fun at the minute, which is nice. It helps when you’re winning. I made the jump across at the end of last year and I couldn’t be happier.”
