CARLTON VFLW have recorded their highest score of the 2024 VFLW season registering 77 points in their Round 13 win against the Saints.

It tops the Blues’ previous highest score which came all the way back in Round 1 when the team scored 59 points against the Cats.

The team, which featured 15 AFL-listed players, played with freedom and cohesion to lead the match from the first bounce until the final siren.

With additional experience over the opposition, the Blues were able to run away with a season-high 75-point victory.

Mia Austin (20 disposals, 14 score involvements, and eight marks) got the scoreboard ticking over early, kicking her first goal in the first three minutes.

Austin started the game strongly, moving well and presenting options within the forward line to get involved in several chains of play.

The emerging forward would finish the afternoon with three goals in one of her best performances of the year so far.

The work rate of the Blues at the stoppages was clinical and dynamic, giving them enough space to get out of the congestion, find space and then look for a target in their forward 50.

A fairly unique play resulted in one of the goals of the day just before the quarter time siren.

With time-winding down, midfielder Brooke Vickers launched the ball inside the Blues’ forward 50m.

The ball would then deflect off the foot of a Saints’ defender into the open arms of Carlton’s Tahlia Read, who quickly snapped the team’s sixth goal of the afternoon.

It was a relatively quiet second quarter constant possession changes. It was the Saints upping their defensive pressure, forcing difficult shots for the home team and holding the Blues to just five behinds for the term.

Carlton’s backline responded in kind to the opposition’s defensive efforts, restricting any attacking momentum the Southern Saints were able to gather throughout the game.

The work ethic of Mimi Hill (32 disposals, eight score involvements, and seven intercept possessions) really kept Carlton’s backline ticking. Each time the ball entered the Saints forward half, Hill would always be there in the space to get back possession,

It was hard to wipe the smile off Tarni Brown’s (20 disposals, seven score involvements, and seven inside 50’s) face as she kicked her first goal in the Navy Blue. The moment was exemplified with her teammates flocking to her to help celebrate the moment.

Carlton dominated the inside 50’s by +52 and it reflected on the scoreboard.

Most of the time they entered their forward 50, their efforts would result in some sort of score. Carlton also won clearances by +17 and tackles by +16.

Carlton will have one more chance to register a win as they enter into the final match of their 2024 VFLW season.

The game will be a much-anticipated rematch against the Darebin Falcons at IKON Park on Sunday 23 June from 2pm (AEST).
