THE PASSION of Carlton fans knows no bounds.
Just days removed from playing in front of 87,775 people at the MCG in what was the biggest Geelong home crowd of all time, the Blues are readying up to do it all over again on Friday night.
When Carlton meets old enemy Collingwood at the home of football, it will be on the brink of a 50-year first.
For the fifth straight game at the MCG, the Blues are eyeing off a fifth consecutive crowd of over 80,000 people — as confirmed by resident Twitter stats guru, SirSwampThing. It’s a feat which hasn’t been achieved for 50 years, since the Pies across 1970 and 1971.
Carlton’s run of capacity crowds at the ‘G started in last year’s elimination final, when 92,026 fronted up to the home of football for the Blues’ first final in a decade against Sydney. The majority of the 96,412 in attendance for that famous semi final against Melbourne were in Navy Blue the following week.
To start this year, the Blues have played in front of crowds of 83,881 (against Richmond) and 87,775 (against Geelong), with all signs pointing to another massive figure this Friday night.
As Michael Voss said following last week’s game with the Cats, “that’s a real advantage to us”.
"I hope our supporters walk away knowing that we boxed on and we went toe-to-toe with a very good team, but also feel like we can do better and we can be better and expect better.”

“We find it’s a unique strength of ours, that we can come to the MCG and play in front of these big crowds against these great teams and somehow normalise it,” Voss said.
“It becomes more of a privilege for us, not so much the pressure that comes with it — it comes as a privilege that we get to do that.
“Our people just keep coming. We’re feeling that wave of support and that noise we’re getting.”
Going forward, with the 100,000 member barrier broken for the first time in the Club’s history, CEO Brian Cook was hopeful the good times can keep rolling.
“We’ve actually approached the AFL to play an extra game at the MCG and one less at Marvel, so six at the ‘G and five at Marvel rather than the other way around,” Cook told Channel 7.
“In our new MCG agreement, which is five years, we’re committed to a minimum of five home games there. It’s the right time.
“It’s up to the AFL . . . we’re hoping that they see us as being ready for that now.”
