THE Carlton Football Club, alongside the North Melbourne Football Club, today announced the total funds raised for the Good Friday Appeal from this year’s Good Friday SuperClash.
A game that means more than just football, both clubs, and their supporters, wholeheartedly embraced the Good Friday SuperClash, raising an incredible $312,088*.
A sold-out crowd saw $103,000 generated from ticket sales, while $51,868.73 worth of funds were made from the SuperClash tin rattles outside the ground.
Banding together to auction off their personal items, the Carlton playing group - led by defender Mitch McGovern - also donated signed boots and player-issued guernseys, raising $10,176.36 so far for the Good Friday Appeal.
Blues CEO Brian Cook said the Club was grateful to play a small part in such a significant day on the calendar, and expressed pride in the players’ willingness to give back.
“As a Club, we are focused on making a positive contribution to the wider community, and the auction initiative stemmed entirely from the playing group symbolises our commitment to do good off the field, as well as on it,” Cook said.
“The game is just one part of an important week: it is so much more than just playing football. Both our AFL and AFLW teams were able to visit the Royal Children’s Hospital ahead of the match and see firsthand the impact Royal Children’s Hospital and their unbelievable staff have on helping thousands of kids and their families.
“As a club whose home is just down the road from the RCH, we are grateful to be in a position where we can use our platform to bring attention to such an important cause.
“It has been fantastic working alongside North Melbourne, to not only raise funds for the Good Friday Appeal but to also highlight and bring awareness to the real superheroes of the day.”
*Final donation figure to be determined following the completion of both North Melbourne and Carlton’s online auctions.
