The Spirit of Carlton will hold its annual special themed lunch on Thursday, August 28, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of "the 1968 breakthrough".

The lunch at Telstra Dome starting at noon will celebrate the Blues' fantastic victory over arch rival Essendon in the 1968 Grand Final.

The historic premiership win, spearheaded by coach Ron Barassi, captain John Nicholls and president George Harris, ended a 21-year period in the doldrums and heralded the start of the club's most successful era.

Members of the premiership team will attend the lunch, which will feature highlights from the game, great food and entertainment and a special Spirit of Carlton guest speaker.
