An old fashioned half-time spray was the catalyst for Carlton’s stunning come-from-behind victory over Port Adelaide - according to Blues utility Lachie Henderson.
Speaking on 3AW’s Sports Today program on Monday, Henderson said an honest and frank discussion initiated by the team’s leadership group enabled the players to focus on turning things around in the second half.
“It was a great win by the boys,” Henderson said.
“We didn’t come out breathing fire as we should have and we took a little bit to get going.
“It (the spray) was a lot to do with us as a team more than anything; it wasn’t just Mick (Malthouse), it was more of the leaders as well and we obviously spoke about a few things and got them right in that last quarter."
Henderson nominated Carlton’s attack at the contest as the most impressive facet of their one-point win - a victory that granted the Blues a shot at finals glory.
“Take nothing away from Port Adelaide, they were fantastic in that first half and they really blew us away and we had to take stock,” the 23-year old said.
“It was our pressure (that won the match). Watching that last quarter from the backline, the boys around the footy were amazing.
“If we bring that pressure, it goes a long way to winning games.”
