THE CARLTON Football Club has today informed its members that President Luke Sayers will seek an extension of his Term of Office.
Sayers has proposed to continue as President for a further 12 months (until the end of 2025), in order to continue to provide the stable and strong leadership that will be crucial to the Club’s ambitions, as it enters an important period in its history.
In line with the Club’s constitution, members are permitted to extend a Director’s term of office beyond their 12 years of service by ordinary resolution at the Club’s Annual General Meeting.
This will provide important stability at Board level in order to allow the Club to continue to fulfill its five-year strategic plan, which has begun strongly in its first two years since the appointment of Sayers as President and Brian Cook as CEO at the end of 2021.
The Club’s board of directors unanimously supports the approval of the proposed resolution, in order to maintain the stability that has been built across all facets of the Club.
“We have worked incredibly hard to build this new era for the Carlton Football Club. The hard work is not over though, and I feel I have an obligation to ensure we maintain the commitment we made to our members when I became President two years ago,” Sayers said.
“This additional 12 months will not only provide us with the stability to continue to achieve our strategic objectives, but it will help ensure that we are creating a Carlton that will be successful for the long term, on and off the field.
“In the last two years we have undergone significant change, with half the Board, a new President, a new CEO and new AFL and AFLW Senior Coaches. Now, I feel I have a crucial job, to bed down those changes, and to provide support and stability to our CEO, our footy department and to all our coaches and players as they strive for success.”
“It is the greatest privilege to serve our passionate and supportive members, and I want to thank each and every one of them. Their support to date has been central to the significant growth that we have seen, and I want to continue to make them proud to be Carlton people.”
Under Sayer’s direction, the Board has invested in high calibre individuals to take the Club forward, including, amongst others, our AFL and AFLW senior coaches, our CEO and senior executives.
The extension of Sayers to continue as president for an additional 12 months will allow the Club to continue to build a platform for sustained success and facilitate an orderly succession within the Board beyond the 2025 season.
