An absolute utter disgrace. That's how Carlton coach Mick Malthouse has described suggestions that there's more likely to be a video review if a player over-acts.

The comments come after Carlton forward Jeff Garlett kicked a goal that was disallowed against Essendon on Friday night.

"If a pre-requisite is to belly ache, to scream, yell and carry on ..  if that's a pre requisite then I want our blokes to do it every time. It's a disgrace if that's the case, an absolute utter disgrace."

Malthouse has revealed Garlett believed he kicked a goal.

But the shy forward isn't one to speak up, so accepted the umpire's decision and moved on.

It may have been to his detriment. No one called for a video review, but a replay clearly showed the ball coming off Garlett's boot.

The AFL has admitted that the failure to call for a video review was a mistake.
