TARNI Brown is the newest addition to the Carlton Football Club for the 2024 season.

The Club was involved in a four-way trade with Collingwood, St Kilda and North Melbourne. The trade will see Carlton gain impressive midfielder Brown as well as pick No.48, with the Blues trading out Annie Lee (Collingwood), Paige Trudgeon (St Kilda) and pick No.47 (North Melbourne).

Brown, daughter of Gavin Brown, arrived at Collingwood through their first-ever father-daughter selection in the 2020 AFLW Draft.

Joining Abbie McKay, the AFLW’s first-ever father-daughter selection, Brown is predominantly positioned in the midfield, with the ability to play either as an inside or outside midfielder.

Brown also has the versatility and composure in front of goals to push forward. Her speed and ability to create in the forward half is sure to excite Carlton fans in future years.

Brown is a clean user, especially out of stoppages, while her speed and agility are assets to her game which make her a difficult match-up for the opposition.

The 21-year-old is experienced at the AFLW level, playing 34 games in her four seasons at Collingwood, with four of those coming in finals: she kicked the match-winning goal in the Pies’ victory over North Melbourne in 2021.

Lee will depart Carlton after playing a total of 14 games - two of those in 2023 - across her three seasons at the Blues, debuting in Round 1 of season six.

Trudgeon will head to St Kilda after arriving at the Blues in 2021 as a replacement player. Making her debut in Round 1 of season six, Trudgeon played 21 games in the Navy Blue, with a knee injury restricting her to two games in 2023.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tarni into the Navy Blue. She is a great person off-field and will fit in well with the positive culture we are fostering here at the Club,” Head of AFLW Ash Naulty said.

“Tarni comes from a talented football family, and she is a proven performer at AFLW level. She has a number of links with people already at Carlton and we’re looking forward to her writing her own story in Navy Blue.

“We also acknowledge the hard work Paige and Annie have put in at Carlton: they have both been respected members of our side during their time at IKON Park.

“We thank them for their contribution to the Club over the past few years and we wish them nothing but the best in their future careers.”
