Blues bullish on star duo
Chris Judd and Michael Jamison are both expected to play in the NAB Cup in preparation for Richmond in round one
CARLTON'S quest for a top-four berth has been given a considerable boost with the Herald Sun revealing Carlton skipper Chris Judd (shoulder) and key defender Michael Jamison (back - stress reaction) are likely to play in the NAB Cup in the next fortnight.
"I am travelling really well," Judd said at Carlton's family day at Visy Park on Sunday.
"I am back doing full training and it was just a little clean-up, so I am looking forward to having a competitive hitout in the next couple of weeks."
Jamison was also optimistic.
"I am well," he said. "I am only two or three weeks away, so the plan was always to play a couple of NAB Cup [games]. A [stress] reaction is a precursor to a [stress] fracture, so it's a little bit of a hot spot down there."
Meanwhile, The Age reports that Carlton is considering using young ruckman/forward Matthew Kreuzer as a ruck-rover.
The move would provide the Blues with a midfield marking target and another physical presence at stoppages.
West Coast employed the tactic to devastating effect last season when Nic Naitanui combined with No.1 ruckman Dean Cox.
Carlton midfielder Kade Simpson said Kreuzer could make an impact in such a role.
"It's definitely been thrown up," Simpson said.
"If [Shaun] Hampson and Robbie [Warnock] are both rucking well, I'm sure 'Kreuz' will probably play a bit of ruck-rover.
"When the ball hits the ground, he's like another midfielder, he's so good in that second and third effort. He's brilliant for us."
