AUSTIN, Hill, Sherar, Skepper.

Four Carlton players have been nominated in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22under22 squad.

With the final team to be announced on 22 November, voting will be open for the next week to celebrate the best young talent in the competition.

It’s no surprise that any of Carlton’s quarter have been nominated after standout individual seasons in Navy Blue.

Winning the Blues’ goalkicking in 2023, youngster Mia Austin enjoyed a brilliant second campaign, overcoming a serious injury last year to emerge as one of the AFLW’s brightest young forwards.

Earning a Rising Star nomination in Round 8, Austin kicked 11 goals for the season while also hauling in 10 contested marks, sitting 14th in the competition and only behind Breann Moody from a Carlton perspective.

Joining her was fellow 2022 first-round draftee Keeley Skepper, who earned her second Rising Star nomination in a year where she played all bar one game.

Skepper’s best football in 2023 was top tier, having four games with 20 disposals or more: her best came in the big win against West Coast in Round 3, accumulating 23 disposals and three goals in a clear best-on-ground performance.

Her namesake was just as impressive in year three, with Keeley Sherar taking her game to a new level.

The childhood Bluebagger stepped up with her midfield role this season, ranking third in the team for disposals and No.1 for clearances and tackles: she achieved a career-high tally of 27 disposals against both Richmond and the Western Bulldogs.

Rounding out the nominations is Mimi Hill, with the reigning best-and-fairest winner leading from the front in her first year as co-vice captain.

Leading the team solo in the final fortnight in the absence of Kerryn Peterson and Jess Dal Pos, Hill - who turned 22 last month - was once again a prime mover in the midfield, averaging just shy of 22 disposals a game in another consistent season.

All four Blues are looking to be named in the representative side for the first time, with Hill (season six, season seven) and Skepper (season seven) once again nominated.
