STARTING on Saturday, David Teague will become the 34th coach of the Carlton Football Club as he steps into a caretaker role.
Teague returned to Ikon Park before the 2018 season, taking charge of the Club’s forward line after leading a potent Adelaide attack in its Grand Final season of 2017.
With over 10 years of experience in coaching, Carlton CEO Cain Liddle said the former Blue would grow in the role across the next 11 weeks.
“‘Teaguey’ is a John Nicholls Medallist here at Carlton,” Liddle said at yesterday’s press conference.
“He’s now been in the system as an assistant for the best part of 10 years. He's also coached a team in his own right.
"Our supporters have been unbelievable through this process."

Cain Liddle said the Club wouldn't deviate from its plan going forward, and was quick to praise the Bluebagger faithful. #BoundByBlue
“[Head of Football] Brad Lloyd’s recommendation was David Teague, and we supported that.”
As Liddle said, it won’t be the first time Teague has been a senior coach: he started his career as a playing-coach for the Northern Bullants (now Blues) back in 2008.
After retiring from playing duties, Teague led Northern to consecutive VFL Grand Finals in 2009 and 2010.
I have been lucky enough to have shared a locker next to, played with and been coached by David Teague. Inspiring, fun and well prepared. Go well Teaguey.

He ultimately moved to West Coast, where he was a defensive coach for three years: after a last-placed finish in 2010, the Eagles returned to the top eight for the next two years, coinciding with Teague's arrival.
He then had stints at St Kilda (2014) and Adelaide (2015-2017) prior to returning to the Club where he played 50 games.
