CONTESTED ball-winning machine Gab Pound is full of confidence ahead of Carlton’s Round 2 clash with the Giants.

Following her team-high nine contested possessions and 10 intercepts against Collingwood, the 23-year-old says she is enjoying her new role as a defensive midfielder.

“It was pretty nice to get that first win on the board. It was a bit congested, but four points is four points and we’re very happy with that,” Pound told Carlton Media.

“Just recently I started playing as a defender and I feel as though I’ve found my position.

“I can read the play pretty well, which allows me to get those intercepts, and I’m feeling really good about my game.”

Away from the footy field, the health-science student enjoys working as a bartender and maintaining a relaxed lifestyle at home.

“On those off nights from training I work at a bar slinging pints. In my spare time I hang out with my pup, clean up and mope around!” she laughs.

“I’m on uni break at the moment, I go back in late February studying health science… I’m second year studying part-time as it’s a bit much doing full-time juggling footy, study and work - it gets a bit hectic.”

Asked about her preparation for interstate games, Pound said her routine doesn’t change.

“It’s the same really (interstate games). You do have that travel which gives you more time to think about the game and more time to hang out with the girls, but I think about it as the same as any other game.

“I recovered well from last week’s game and I’m good to go this Friday.”
