CARLTON’S VFL affiliate, the Northern Bullants, have returned to the winner's list in with a 35-point triumph over Williamstown at Visy Park on Saturday.

The Bullants now have six wins and two losses for the season, and are placed third on the ladder behind North Ballarat and Williamstown.

Coach David Teague shares his thoughts on the match and how some of the Carlton-listed players performed in the close win.

We played some really good football on the weekend. It was a very even performance and it was very hard picking a best from the game.

The boys are really playing for each other and everyone is playing their role.

There's no doubt that beating the top team on the weekend gives us confidence. We've been competitive in all our games, although against Collingwood last week, we let our guard down.

We can compete with all teams, but it's probably a great lesson for us that when we are switched on, we play well, but if we drop our guard then the opposition can knock us over.

Cameron Cloke kicked five goals and was really good from the word go. His intensity was up and he had some good, strong body work in his favour. He kicked well in front of goal with 5.2 from seven scoring shots, so it was a good finish for him.

Richard Hadley had 28 touches and took control in the middle. His direction and the way he talked to the younger players was excellent. Mitch Robinson set us up early out of the middle but Richard was just in there all day winning plenty of the ball.

Jordan Bannister played really well. He set us up early and played really well in the second quarter. We played him off a wing and he pushed forward to kick a few goals. He's quite tall for a wingman and we thought we'd be able to get an advantage there and early on in the game he was very good.

Chris Yarran had last weekend off so he came back pretty fresh and had plenty of run in his legs. We played him across half-back and he used the ball well.

Chris Johnson played his second game back and was very reliable. He beat his opponent in most one-on-one battles and played his role for the team. He ran out the game really well and had plenty of run in his legs, and the second week back is usually the hard one so it was a good sign for him.

He might be considered this week and will be in the mix along with Joe Anderson and Mark Austin, if Carlton needs another defender.

Joey again played half-back and was very reliable and defended first before giving us some run off when he could. There were a couple of courageous efforts too where he ran back with the flight of the ball that were really team lifting.

Robinson was really good in the first quarter. He had 10 possessions before they started tagging him, but he was really good and had six tackles and led the way as well as winning hard-ball gets.

Adam Hartlett again stood out across centre half-back and was very good and is probably putting his hand up for selection, while Greg Bentley played across half-forward and I thought he played an important role for the team.

We didn't have any injuries, which was good. Jordan Russell flew up to Brisbane with the senior team so he didn't play and will come back next week, while Adam Bentick played his first game in the reserves and played really well, as did Lachie Hill.
