Things were seemingly falling apart for the Blues as the final break neared, with the Eagles kicking six of seven goals for the quarter to lead by 14 points.
Tuohy was in Malthouse's sights when he came to the bench with just a couple of minutes to play, and the coach appeared to continue on to other players when the break arrived.
But it worked as the Blues rebounded to win a thriller by three points.
"What you talking about mate?" Tuohy joked when asked about the incident on Monday.
"That's how Mick looks when he's pumping you up.
"He came back a few times. I tried to walk away and it didn't work, he just kind of eyeballed me up and down so I couldn't get away from him.
"I generally think it looks a lot worse than it is. I quite like having Mick on the boundary. He is a lot more cool and collected than people give him credit for, it just looks like on game day he gets very animated.
"You'd rather stay away from those kind of ones if you can, but he was quite happy after the game, so we're all good."
Tuohy switched into gear when play resumed, kicking a crucial goal from a lucky 50-metre penalty midway through the last term.
"I think when it's put to you and you're made (to) stand up, generally most players will," he said.
"Everybody was a bit fired up. It looked at that time like any little mistake could cost either team.
"The way the game is now, teams generally punish you pretty much instantaneously for every little mistake and if you're not fully switched on you get found out really quickly."
The Blues' second win of the season has improved the mood at Visy Park, with confidence building ahead of Friday night's blockbuster against Collingwood.
Forward Chris Yarran is expected to be fit despite a hamstring concern, while midfielder Andrew Carrazzo will be watched closely after withdrawing from Saturday night's game with back spasms.
