The Blues defender says he was thrilled to have been selected and to help seal their 36 point win over St Kilda.
"It's great to have had the trust of the Coach and to have been a part of tonight's team."
Having spent the majority of the season playing for Carlton's VFL side, The Northern Blues, Watson says the atmosphere at an AFL level is electric.
"You can notice the difference in the crowd straight-away. At times it's so loud – you can't even hear your team-mates!"
With Carlton having not won a game against the Saints since 2011, Watson says they were well prepared and approached the match as a team.
"We knew that St Kilda was going to come out hard. But we started well, tackled hard and had good aggression from the start of the game until the end."
With the Blues just nine points in-front by half time, Watson says Captain Marc Murphy's pep-talk before the start of the third quarter, gave the side an added boost.
"Murphy was just reinforcing what Mick (Malthouse) had said in the rooms - to continue to work hard and to work for your team mates. It's all about the team tonight, and do everything you can for them."
Carlton Coach, Mick Malthouse said that Watson was given an opportunity to step-up and he didn't disappoint.
"He played a fairly strong game, a game that we needed and we relied upon."
With Watson a Melbourne local, he reinforces the strong support he's received from his family.
"Mum and Dad came to most games, whether it being AFL or VFL, it doesn't matter."
It was fantastic to see the number 10 guernsey under the bright lights of Etihad Stadium and we hope to see much more of it.
