THE BLUES have returned home triumphant, earning a valuable four points and reclaiming their position on the winner's list by causing an upset against their rivals in the Magpies.

A tough battle was always going to occur when the Blues travelled to the AIA Centre to take on a third-placed Collingwood.

Delivering consistent pressure and follow-through for the duration of the match set the Blues up for a well-deserved eight-point win.

Laura Robertson, Millie Klingbeil and Em Hurley all slotted a major, while Georgia Tait kicked two goals – one in the second quarter and one in the final term.

Quarter one

Both teams were welcomed with windy conditions to start the match, as it was evident this was going to be a physical game. It was end-to-end footy for the first few minutes, and some big tackles and defensive moves were being made,. Collingwood made the first move with a goal, as they found flow through the middle. Isabelle Khoury turned on the defensive pressure for the Blues with some vital marks and contests. It was a quiet quarter for the Blues, not able to make any scoreboard impact for the term.

Quarter two

The start of the term got off to a flyer. The Blues did not want to be playing catch up so Laura Roberston stepped up to the plate, followed shortly by Emily Hurley. Chloe Bain was strong in the ruck, giving plenty of opportunities for clearances to the midfielders and Jess Joyce was clean in the contest. Leading the inside 50s for the term, the Blues wanted to put as much pressure on the scoreboard as possible. A kick after the siren gave Georgia Tait her first goal going into the main break.

Quarter three

The Blues needed to keep their intensity up in the third quarter as the Magpies were not going to let the game slip away too easily. Millie Klingbeil and Ash Thorneycroft saw a heap of the ball and laid plenty of tackles. The quarter ended and the Blues were trailing but just a point.

Quarter four

A singular point was all that was separating the Blues from taking the lead, and it was going to take strong ball movement through the entire ground to make sure they hit the front. Still dominating the inside 50 count, the Blues made sure to keep the ball down their end for as long as they could. Goals from Klingbeil and Tait sealed the game and as the clock counted down, the Magpies ran out of time. This led to a much-needed win for Carlton, who have struggled over the last three weeks.
