RELIEF.
Breaking a six-game losing streak, Carlton could walk into the bye some nourishment for its hard work after collecting the four points in Round 14.
Taking home a 59-point win in a team performance, AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss was proud of the way his side was able to string their lessons together for a dominant game against the Suns.
Here's what he had to say.
On the feeling from the result of the game:
"Some joy, more relief. Coming into the bye, we get to smile for a little while: we haven’t had that for some period of time.
"We’ve had to stick at keeping our eyes in, working on things we need to correct and believing that we needed to go about creating opportunities for ourselves and the scoring needle would eventually change and all the things you believe in high performance and try and back that in.
On the upcoming bye:
"To be honest, I thought a performance like that has been on the cards for a few weeks and hadn’t been put together. We're ble to go into the bye with a smile on our face and four points in the pocket and get our rest — because 14 weeks is a long time without a rest.
"We’ll spend some time as a team looking at that when we get back, but for now, we’ll take the rest, the recovery and also the four points."
On the first quarter:
"I thought we were still bringing great pressure around the contest, so I felt like we were still solid. We weren’t necessarily getting a lot of territory in the game.
"We had a couple of opportunities where we couldn’t convert from limited opportunities and obviously Gold Coast missed a few chances as well. To hold on through that first quarter and take in the grind and the fight and that was really the message at quarter time – keep believing in that and the opportunities will keep opening up.
"I don’t think I anticipated what happened in the second quarter and that was through centre clearance dominance."
The interview you all wanted, but TDK certainly didn't ask for.

On the unity of the Club:
"The Club has been really unified during this period of time and really clear on what will help us moving forward and what will help us moving forward.
"I think that’s the most significant thing to come out of this is for us as a club, not just a team. The whole Club staying tight and knowing where we’re going. We’re not there yet but it did test that for periods of time."
On the conversations within the four walls:
"There’s been a lot of really good conversations. We’re pretty committed to that direction and I think when you’re really aligned with what you’re trying to achieve, it’s a hell of a lot easier.
"We’ve been strong on philosophies and we’ll continue to be that way. That doesn’t mean every result will go our way, we’re not going to win every game, and we’re not anticipating that this is the case, but we’ll put ourselves in with a percentage chance, and if we do that often enough, the results will go our way."
On the midfield dominance:
"That was a version I’ve seen before and I hope I continue to see. The other thing is they share the load, it wasn’t on one particular person: the stats may roll out that way, but what I felt like was that that was a midfield group that was going as one team and was able to give us really good looks forward of the ball.
"I felt like the forwards have been taking their turns when they need to and it hasn’t been going all that well, the scoreboard hasn’t been ticking over, we’ve been generating opportunities but haven’t been able to finish our work . . . we were able to finish our work this week."
On Patrick Cripps and other senior players:
"He rides every bump and he’s absolutely desperate for success for this Club. There are a lot of boys in there that have gone through the journey and come through together and want to represent the Club as best they can and make us proud.
"Today was a good day for us: we also know we’ve got some work ahead of us and this guarantees nothing, but we reset ourselves at the bye and get to it after that."
On the defensive mix and line-up changes:
"'Newy' was a no-brainer because he’s had a great first part of the year, so it meant we did go a bit smaller but some of those guys have been in reasonable form and some of it is that we’re still trying to build out what our back six or seven looks like. Boyd and Cincotta haven’t played a lot of footy together, they’re still learning cohesion and they’re starting to get some footy together behind them. 'Newy' has been a real leader for us down there.
"David Cuningham and Lachie Fogarty coming in: they're nice, clean ball movers, they get out of congestion, know how to get around the ground and fill the roles we need to play. I felt they were important.
"Jack Martin has been back a few weeks, he’s added some points of difference for us up forward as well. We’re constantly evolving as a team and if we can get guys out there for longer and build that cohesion, it would make a massive difference for us."
