Carlton’s Lachie Henderson concedes it has been a tough year at Visy Park, with the Blues having recorded just four wins to leave the side sitting 14th on the ladder.

Speaking on SEN this morning, Henderson revealed practical jokers Mitch Robinson and Dennis Armfield are the ones who have been lifting the team’s spirits during the low points of the season.

While he said despite his sometimes prickly media persona, Mick Malthouse has been a positive influence who offers plenty of guidance.

“He’s been fantastic Mick,” Henderson said

“He’s had to cop us playing some pretty bad footy this year and he’s working really hard with the development side with the young boys.

“He’s a great coach to go up and have a chat (with) when you’re going wrong and work out what’s happening – he really helps you out.”

The Blues take on St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Carlton will be out to snap a five-game losing streak, while the Saints haven’t won since Round 5.

Henderson said he hopes his team can bring the competitiveness they displayed against top eight teams Hawthorn, Collingwood and Geelong.

“We know we play well against the top teams – we’ve just got to find a way to get ourselves ready-to-go versus the teams around us on the ladder,” Henderson said.

“It’s obviously a big game for us this week and it’s something that we’re really looking forward to.”
