MATURE football was the way Patrick Cripps described his team’s return to winning form against West Coast.

Recording their second consecutive win over the Eagles at Optus Stadium, the Blues were at their dominant best on Saturday night, recording their biggest score since 2012 in a 108-point victory.

Carlton had winners all over the park, but it started in the midfield, with 167 more disposals than the opposition yet also recording 19 more tackles.

Speaking to FOX Footy post-match, Cripps said the last fortnight has seen an uptick in form for the Blues’ midfield brigade.

The captain was one of three Blues to record over 30 disposals and a goal, alongside Blake Acres and Adam Cerra. George Hewett (32 disposals, six clearances) and Sam Walsh (30 disposals, 10 tackles) also chimed in, while Sam Docherty showed no ill effects of his recent injury layoff with a polished performance, operating at 93 per cent kicking efficiency.

Marc Pittonet contributed six clearances of his own, while recording 11 hitouts to advantage after 18 last weekend (the equal highest of anyone in the competition this season). He currently holds the best hitout-to-advantage percentage of the 32 ruckmen in the competition who have competed in over 100 ruck contests.

It was the first time that Carlton’s entire midfield group have played in the same game this season, and the first time since Docherty has had greater midfield minutes which began late last year.

“It was a really important game for us to get back going,” Cripps said.

“I felt like the last two weeks, we’ve started to get our identity back around the ball and play some consistent footy.

“I thought the whole team went in tonight. We put four quarters together and played good, mature footy.

"Around the stoppages, there was a lot of heat, it's a credit to [West Coast]. It hasn't gone their way, but if you watch every game game, they've having a crack and tonight was no different . . . it felt like it was on all the time around the ball.
