SISTER one week, Dad the next.

After honouring Layla Motlop’s birthday in Round 4 against North Melbourne, Jesse Motlop once again channelled a family member in his celebration versus Adelaide.

While he threw up the ‘LM’ on Good Friday, Motlop adopted the hand symbol used by his dad Daniel throughout his career playing for North Melbourne and later Port Adelaide.

Back in the state where his old man played the majority of his 130-game career, there was no better place for Carlton’s Motlop to adopt a celebration he’s hoping to make his own from now.

Explaining its origins, Motlop said it had a direct link to the nickname he has made his own since his arrival at IKON Park.

Deadly.

“It is otherwise known as ‘Dhapirrk’ - which translates to ‘Deadly’ - in Yolngu Matha language of north-east Arnhemland,” Motlop said.

“The celebration is inspired by the Indigenous former Fremantle and North Melbourne footballer, the late Gary Dhurrkay. This is where Dad drew the inspiration from and used as a celebration for every goal he kicked as a tribute when he passed away.”
