Simpson prepared to end streak
Kade Simpson says he will break his run of consecutive matches if a rest would benefit the team
CARLTON midfielder Kade Simpson, holder of the AFL's longest current run of consecutive games with 156, says he is prepared to end the streak and take a week's rest if it will benefit the team.
But it seems the Blues' position on the ladder may decide the situation for him.
Carlton is ninth with a 6-6 record, and faces high-riding Hawthorn and Collingwood in the next fortnight.
Simpson told SEN radio's Morning Glory program on Wednesday that ideally it would be best for the side to be travelling well and high on the ladder if he were to take a break before the finals.
"If we were in that position and it was going to benefit me and the team before the finals I'd definitely rest up," he said.
Simpson said Carlton was showing signs of return to its early-season form despite losing its past three matches to Port Adelaide (54 points), Geelong (12 points) and West Coast (10 points).
"I think the past couple of weeks have been positive," he said.
"We've just fallen short against some pretty good sides."
