CARLTON will have three club debutants take to the field when it clashes with Richmond in the traditional season opener.
With the AFL debuts of Ollie Hollands and Lachie Cowan confirmed on Monday, it’s no surprise that trade recruit Blake Acres will join them in Navy Blue.
Acres’ last game of AFL football came for Fremantle in last year’s semi final against Collingwood in front of a crowd of over 90,000 people: a similar crowd is in store when the Blues and Tigers meet on Thursday.
It means that Acres will officially go down as Carlton player No.1233, Cowan No.1234 and Hollands No.1235 in the history books.
There’s also a first game in over a year for Ed Curnow, who will likely line up in attack in his first game since Round 23 of 2021: in that clash, he kicked four goals and received Brownlow votes against Greater Western Sydney.
It marks just the fifth time since the middle of 2019 that the Curnow brothers have both worn the Navy Blue in the same game.
As confirmed by AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss in his Wednesday press conference, Jack Martin and Mitch McGovern have both been selected after impressing in a VFL practice match last week. The game will also mark Jack Silvagni's 100th AFL game.
Marc Pittonet is one of four emergencies for Thursday’s clash, joined by Josh Honey, Lochie O’Brien and Lachie Plowman: one will be named the sub an hour before the bounce.
Tomorrow night's clash begins at 7:20pm AEDT.
