NINE from 10.

A selection of current Blues have been nominated for the AFL Players Association’s 22under22 Team of the Decade.

Opening today, voting will close on Wednesday 1 March, with the final team to be announced on Thursday 9 March — a week before Carlton’s season opener against Richmond.

The Team of the Decade process sees every player who has made the 22under22 receive a nomination, with fans able to vote on the final 22.

Since its inception, the 22under22 team has acknowledged the standout young players in the competition, with the Blues having more than their fair share of selections in the last 10 years.

Patrick Cripps was Carlton’s first nominee back in 2015 (the year of his first John Nicholls Medal), backing it up in 2016 when he was joined by Sam Docherty and Jacob Weitering.

Charlie Curnow received consecutive nominations in 2017 and 2018, before fellow Coleman Medallist Harry McKay backed him up in 2019.

Weitering held the initial record amongst AFL Blues with three nominations, adding to his 2016 appearance with selections in 2019 and 2020 — however, that was eclipsed by Sam Walsh last year.

Walsh featured in all four teams he was eligible for since his draft season of 2019 up until last year, where he was joined by Adam Cerra: the former Docker is the only Blue to be nominated at two clubs, also featuring in 2020.

Jack Martin (2016 and 2017, Gold Coast) and Zac Williams (also 2016, Greater Western Sydney) have also received nominations after their selections while at their previous clubs.
