The Blues will embark on their third and final interstate trip of the home-and-away season when they head to Metricon Stadium to face the Suns on Friday night.
With both sides mathematically still in the hunt for finals, Friday’s match-up shapes as a must-win in order to feature when the home-and-away season concludes. While other results will need to fall in the winner's favour, four points and some vital percentage would provide a boost to the victor’s chances.
What to watch:
From a Navy Blue perspective, Gab Pound will be out to continue her impressive form in front of goal, hitting the scoreboard in three consecutive matches, while providing the option to be moved behind the ball for increased composure when needed.
Rising Star nominee Keeley Skepper has also added another dimension to the Game Changers’ forward line, which fired in the opening term of their Round 8 clash with Richmond – form which the group will be eager to recapture come Friday night.
Down back, Lucy McEvoy has only solidified her reputation as one of the Blues’ best ball users, while the addition of Brooke Walker in the defensive mix has provided added dash and flare.
An eye on the opposition:
The Suns will be out to bounce back from a tough loss to Melbourne, falling to the reigning Grand Finalists by 49 points at Metricon Stadium in Round 8.
Alison Drennan and Charlie Rowbottom customarily dominated through the middle with 20 and 19 disposals respectively, while Lucy Single also impressed with 17 disposals, four tackles and four clearances.
Jac Dupuy and former Blue Courtney Jones have proved dangerous up forward in recent weeks, while Lauren Bella’s improvement in the ruck has been a highlight for the Suns.
A late out last week, Ellie Hampson will be in the mix for selection for Friday night.
Last time we met:
The Blues were triumphant the last time they met the Suns, recording a commanding 30-point victory at the tail end of season six.
Mimi Hill and Brea Moody asserted dominance in the middle of the ground, while Jess Good booted a career-best two goals.
The Blues will be seeking to maintain their perfect head-to-head record against the Suns, also victorious in their only other clash back in Round 8 of season five.
