Carlton coach Mick Malthouse rates Saturday night’s win over West Coast as one of the best victories he has been associated with.
The Blues came from behind to take out a three-point win over the fourth placed Eagles.
In his weekly message to Carlton members, Malthouse said the win was very satisfying.
“I generally think over a long period of coaching that was as good as we’ve done in regard to climbing a mountain,” Malthouse said.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for West Coast, not only as a football club but as a team, and I think their young coach has done an outstanding job.
“So all the more merit to our young players who have come into the side and the players who have stood tall.”
Malthouse said it wasn’t just Carlton’s star players who stood up, but a whole team effort that led to the win.
He highlighted the efforts of young Blues Dylan Buckley, Levi Casboult and Kane Lucas, while he says Simon White and Sam Rowe stood tall in defence.
“There’s hardly a player there who can say everything went well for him, but he fought it out, and that’s such a great trait to have is to never say die,” Malthouse said.
The Blues hope to carry the momentum to the MCG on Friday night, when they face Collingwood in their Round 7 clash for the Pratt Cup.
