CARLTON is pleased to welcome former All-Australian Christina Bernardi to its AFLW squad.
Bernardi was an inaugural player for Collingwood and has also played for Greater Western Sydney and Richmond.
The 32-year-old forward has kicked 30 career goals and completed the pre-season with the Blues as a train-on player.
She received All-Australian selection in 2018, the same year she was Collingwood’s leading goalkicker.
Under AFLW rules, clubs can elevate a train-on player to their squad when a minimum of 24 players are available for selection.
Carlton Head of Women’s Football Brett Munro said while it’s unfortunate to receive injuries to players, it opens opportunities for other talent, including Bernardi.
“Christina has proven that she is an asset in the forward line and is capable of kicking goals, so we’re looking forward to seeing what she can do with this opportunity,” Munro said.
“It’s unfortunate that her opportunity has come off the back of a number of injuries, but we are always ready to adapt to the situation in front of us, as is Christina.
“She is an All Australian and club leading goalkicker, so it is our privilege to give her the chance to step up to an AFLW list once again.”
