TO THE west.

Carlton will embark on its first interstate trip of season seven to take on Fremantle on Saturday afternoon.

After recording each a win, loss and draw thus far, the Blues will be looking to tip the ledger in their favour and record their first win against the Dockers since 2019.

Continuing to celebrate Indigenous Round, there will be plenty to keep an eye out for in the Round 4 clash.

What to watch:

The Blues will be looking to replicate the football produced for three quarters of their clash with Port Adelaide last round, while tidying up aspects of the second quarter which allowed their opposition back in the game.

Abbie McKay has had a red-hot start to the season, producing season-best disposal numbers in two of the opening three rounds, and making a name for herself as a contested-ball magnet.

Captain Kerryn Peterson is flourishing in a new role on the wing, banking nine AFLCA votes for her performance last week which consisted of 21 disposals (90 per cent efficiency), eight intercepts and a goal – just the second of her career.

Keeley Skepper continues to stake her claim for a Rising Star nomination, looking more comfortable at the top level each week.

With the Dockers looking to return to the controlled game style that saw them go deep into the season six finals series, pressure will be key for the Blues who will need to limit the Dockers’ territory game to avoid repeat opportunities to score.

An eye on the opposition:

Fremantle will be eager to steer its season seven campaign back on track and bank the team's first four points after falling to Brisbane, Geelong and the Western Bulldogs in the opening three rounds.

Despite results not falling in their favour, the Dockers have continued to build each week and produced a much-improved performance against the Dogs in Round 3.

Though falling three points short, Kiara Bowers (17 disposals, eight clearances) and Hayley Miller (16 disposals, seven tackles) were impressive in the contest and Mim Strom and Aine Tighe dominated the airways.

While struck by long-term injuries to dominant duo Kara and Ebony Antonio, as well as key defender Janelle Cuthbertson, the Dockers are a chance to regain midfielder Gabby O’Sullivan this week.

Last time we met:

The Blues need to look back to the 2019 preliminary final for their last win over the Dockers and while the two sides have only met twice since, both results have fallen in favour of Fremantle.

Getting the job done on the road will be the major challenge for the Blues, having never beaten Fremantle in the west.
