CARLTON forward Mia Austin will be sidelined for the remainder of AFLW season seven after suffering an ankle syndesmosis injury and broken fibula.

The 18-year-old experienced the injuries during match simulation on Thursday night.

She underwent scans today which confirmed the extent of the injury, ruling the teenager out for the rest of the season.

Austin had enjoyed a strong start to her career in Navy Blue, booting two goals from the opening two games of the season since arriving at IKON Park with pick No.18 in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft.

GM of Women’s Football Brett Munro said Austin had already given Blues fans plenty to be excited about heading into 2023.

“Mia has already shown exciting signs in the first two games of her debut season, some terrific pack marks and a clear goal sense that will only develop over the coming years,” Munro said.

“To see her now sidelined for the rest of the year is clearly disappointing for Mia but we see her as a long-term player for the Carlton Football Club and one our members and supporters will enjoy seeing develop in the coming years.

“She will get all the support she needs during her rehab to ensure she is ready to go in 2023.”

The Blues will tomorrow name their selected side to face Port Adelaide at IKON Park this Sunday at 12:10pm.
