ON THE eve of the Carlton’s AFLW season opener, Jess Good is ready to ride the wave of momentum straight into season seven.

Following an impressive back half of season six, the Blues will be looking to keep the ball rolling when they take on the Magpies under IKON Park lights on Thursday night.

“The momentum really swung our way in the backend of last season, so for us to come back so quickly and really just put things into motion again has been great to continue that progression,” Good told SEN Drive.

“It’s always hard to come off a break but we feel with the shorter break, we can get that momentum rolling and really focus finding our brand of footy early on, and maintaining it over the course of the season.”

On an individual note, after a whirlwind initiation to the sport, Good has had time to reflect on her football journey thus far.

“I feel like I’m improving exponentially,” she said.

“With the facilities and the access to so many staff, you just have no choice but to improve if you really embrace it and completely immerse yourself in the environment.

“I feel like with the right attitude, you can really improve which has been awesome – I’ve absolutely loved it and hopefully I’ll continue to improve.”

Under the tutelage of ruck coach Shaun Hampson, Good has continued to hone her craft over the course of her second pre-season.

“Shaun Hampson has helped me so much, particularly with the ‘tall girl’ things – pack marks and ruck work.

“It can be quite difficult because there’s only two or three of us that can make an impact in that position so you do need to really work on those weapons.”

From a team perspective, Good said the focus has been relatively simple.

“I think it’s really just that high intensity that we want to bring right from the get-go,” she said.

“We just want to be a hard-working group and have a team-first attitude – and that was evident in the back half of last season.

“We’ve had 23 players sign on again so it’s been great to continue that team-building aspect of it, because it can be hard to do that only playing 10 games. The more games we have together under our belt, the more cohesion we’ll build.”
