CHARLIE Curnow has been awarded the 2022 Coleman Medal.
Completing a feat which last happened 120 years ago, Curnow became Carlton’s fourth Coleman Medallist, just 12 months after teammate Harry McKay won the award last season.
Not since 1900/1901 have two different players from the same club finished the VFL/AFL season as the competition’s leading goalkicker.
Curnow, who last week committed his long-term future to Carlton with a six-year contract extension, has enjoyed an individual season far beyond the expectations of many.
After over two years out of the game, Curnow managed to play every game in season 2022, kicking 64 goals: the most in a season by a Blue since Brendan Fevola in 2009.
The 25-year-old soared to new heights in front of goal this season, kicking bags of six goals against Adelaide (Round 8) and top-four opposition Sydney back in Round 10. He also kicked five goals on a further three occasions.
Curnow joins McKay (2021), Fevola (2006, 2009) and Tom Carroll (1961) as the Club’s Coleman Medallists, while Mick Grace, Ern Cowley, Horrie Clover, Harry Vallence and Darcy Vescio (twice) have also ended their respective seasons as the elite competition's leading goalkicker.
