Saturday’s win over the Western Bulldogs was especially sweet for Carlton youngster Breann Moody, who celebrated her 20^th birthday with her best outing in navy blue.

Linking up with with fellow ruck Alison Downie, the twin towers combined for 13 more hit-outs than their opponents in red, white and blue.

“I’m very happy with my efforts and working with Al Downie in the ruck,” Moody said.

“I think we got on top of our rotations to keep ourselves really fresh in the game. I’ve done some individual reflection and there’s definitely always room for improvement.”

Although the Blues won the hit-out count, the Western Bulldogs threatened to snatch the four points from the girls in navy blue by gaining ascendancy around the stoppages.

“I’m very proud of the team’s efforts. I think we fatigued a bit, but the determination to keep going after a few losses was really up there,” she said.

“I think we got just got sick of the feeling of losing. We knew we were better than those performances (against Adelaide and Melbourne).”

The win has definitely boosted morale around Ikon Park, with the girls now looking forward to another away game in Fremantle.

The Dockers are yet to secure their first win of the season, but the Game Changers know that they’re in for a tough contest in the vast expanses of Domain Stadium.

“We’re all hanging on to that winning feeling so I’m sure we’ll work hard this week to keep that,” Moody said.

“It’s all started to come together. We’re more composed. I think we can never be overly confident going into a game, but as long as we focus on what we need to do we’ll give ourselves every chance of coming away with the win.”

The trip over to Perth will also be made special by the fact that both the men’s and women’s team will be travelling together for a double header.

It gives the teams a chance to interact and, as Moody says, gives the girls a unique sense of belonging.

“It’s always different travelling with the boys, but it gives everyone a sense of belonging and it will improve the atmosphere for us, especially considering it’s an away game.”
