CARLTON squared the ledger with three wins from six starts and found a place in the top eight in the process, with a clinical dismantling of Melbourne in the 6th round of 2013.
In overcast conditions on an Autumn Sunday at the MCG, the Blues set up the win early, by way of a five-goal to nothing opening quarter assault. Ably led by captain Marc Murphy, the players weathered a Melbourne mini-revival in the second, and from then on the result was beyond doubt.
Jarrad Waite - in his first senior hit-out for the year - proved a lively target at centre half-forward, although a one-match penalty for an on-field indiscretion identified by the match review panel would unfortunately follow.
The 'Three Amigos' – Eddie Betts, Jeff Garlett and Chris Yarran – set the paddock that grew alight, and Simon White fared prominently in the back half. In the end, Betts delivered the emphatic exclamation mark with a contested mark inside 50 a thumping post-sire torp which split the big sticks and extended his team’s match-winning margin to 61 points.
