MICHAEL Voss believed his Carlton side adapted to the game’s conditions in the 36-point win over GWS.
The Blues did the damage on the scoreboard in the second half, with Voss saying his team was able to tinker a few elements at half time which went a long way to determine the result.
This is what the AFL Senior Coach had to say post-match.
On the showing and result:
"It was a solid performance. The game demanded us to stick to process and it fluctuated from time to time.
"When you looked at the opposition’s pressure, they certainly gave that their all throughout the whole game. We didn’t deviate off of what we needed to be able to do."
On his overview of the game:
"We let them back into the game a couple of times which we could’ve closed out a little bit better. I’m pleased it didn’t discourage the group.
"They stayed on task and stayed on the jobs they needed to get done and believed in what we were trying to achieve, then we finished off the game really strong. There was some real growth signs tonight about the way we want to play."
On the second-half response:
"We had to tighten up a couple of things at half time, some of those around our defence. We tidied up a couple of areas there. Our ball use and how we wanted to use it, whenever we looked up for most of the night there was another number sitting there.
"That’s something that we have faced this year, and we will continue to go to work on that. I thought our back 50 was something last week where we conceded too many scores when the ball went in there, but we tidied that up as well."
On Mitch McGovern's return:
"Really pleased.
"Now the time is going to be spent building that connection and those relationships, like when one moves forward then the other needs to roll in behind or who takes who when.
"That’s something that he’s going to have to take some time on. We’ll use all those minutes to try and build that over the course of the next month.
"I’m pleased we’re starting to have conversations around who’s in and who’s out, because it’s been a bit of a struggle in that space in that part of the ground for a long part of the season."
On relief that Walsh and Weitering returned to the field:
"I was hoping they were only minor and I’m hoping that whatever momentum we’ve had go against is starting to turn the other way. I’m not here to announce what’s been done, but we’re hoping it’s not too bad and both boys will be okay.
"I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw [Walsh] get up on the sidelines myself to be honest. To see him come back out on the field and know he’s okay was really good.
On the fans' impact:
"They’ve been pretty amazing, the energy they’re providing. Some of those I miss because behind that glass, you’re fully focused on some problem solving.
"The energy of our supporters has been amazing the whole year. They should be excited by what we’re doing and what I’m really pleased with is that, again, our contest stuff was really good.
"They’re really connecting with that and the way we’re playing. We’re feeding off that when we can."
On potential returns to availability next week:
"[Hewett] possibly. Matt Owies is another one who would’ve recovered and got through another full week. Jack Martin will be available as well.
"We’re slowly getting momentum. ‘Pitto’ also played in the VFL and has another run under his belt which is really pleasing and Marchbank came back. Hopefully the momentum is going in the right direction now when it comes to that."
