FOR MANY years, the perception of an apparent ‘Carlton swagger’ was believed to be an indication of a Blues side travelling favourably.
However, as Adam Cerra told CodeSports, that’s been replaced by a behaviour constantly uttered by AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss in his addresses to media and internal stakeholders alike.
Humility.
Whether it’s Cerra in the midfield group, the playing group as a whole or both football and non-football staff, it’s something which is constantly being preached inside the four walls of IKON Park.
“We want to stay humble, whether we’re going well or we’re losing,” Cerra told CodeSports’ Daniel Cherny.
“We just knew that there was going to be a lot of outside noise, especially at a big club like Carlton. The more we can just value our internal standards and stay humble every week … that’s what’s been preached.
“We speak about humility a lot. It’s one of our major values.
“We strongly believe that’s what’s put us in good stead for this season.
“It’s definitely ‘park your ego’ in there and the fact we celebrate each other and want each other to do well highlights that. It’s made it really enjoyable to play in there.”
