CARLTON midfielder Lucy McEvoy has been ruled out of the start of the AFLW season after suffering a shoulder injury.
McEvoy underwent scans which confirmed the extent of the injury and that surgery would be required as the best course for her recovery.
The aim is for the 21-year-old to be available to play by the middle of the season subject to the progress of her rehab.
Carlton General Manager of Women’s Football Brett Munro said the Club will monitor McEvoy’s rehab closely over the coming months.
“Lucy’s surgery went well and we are hopeful she will be fit to play by the mid-point of the season,” Munro said.
“Lucy’s contribution to the team is so much more than her on-field performance, and she will continue to be a valuable presence around the Club while completing her rehab.
“While Lucy is disappointed to miss the beginning of the season, she has the full support of the program and we look forward to seeing her back on field later this year.”
