SAM Walsh was the solitary Blue to receive AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award votes in Round 18.

Collecting 33 disposals as Carlton’s chief ball-winner against Geelong, Walsh received three votes from the coaches.

On a night where the Blues were outclassed by the Cats (evidenced by the votes on the night), Walsh battled manfully to work his and the team’s way back into the contest.

Walsh operated at 88 per cent disposal efficiency to go with eight clearances, as well as putting in a shift on both sides of the ball (five score involvements, four tackles).

It continued Walsh’s brilliant form line at the home of football. He hasn’t dropped below 25 disposals at the venue in his last 15 games there, and has averaged 33.5 disposals at the venue across six matches this season.

His three votes meant Walsh (48 votes) jumped Charlie Curnow (46) as the second-placed Blue in the award, behind captain Patrick Cripps (65).
