The Carlton Football Club joined the AFL and the entire community in mourning the passing of Jim Stynes.

Carlton President, Stephen Kernahan issued the following statement earlier today:

The Carlton Football Club shares the grief of the entire football community and the community at large on the untimely passing of Jim Stynes.

Jim was all things to all people and today we’re all in mourning.

Until the end, Jim fought the good fight - just as he did when we competed as players. He was a fierce competitor, a fantastic footballer and of course a Brownlow Medallist who vindicated the Irish experiment.

Off the field, Jim was just as honest. He was a man of great integrity and few were so universally loved.

As I said to Don McLardy and Garry Lyon this morning, it’s hard to know where to start with Jim. All I can do, on behalf of everyone at Carlton, is convey my sincerest condolences to Jim’s wife Sam, his two children Matisse and Tiernan and all members of his extended family on the untimely death of an acknowledged giant.

May he rest in peace.
