Reborn Carlton forward Matt Wright says his Blues can repeat their 2016 victory over in-form Fremantle in Perth on Sunday.
Wright, 27, has resurrected his AFL career at Ikon Park, after Adelaide delisted him two years ago following 94 games in six years for the Crows.
The 178cm veteran kicked a team-leading 22 goals last season and has added 12 more in eight matches this year, earning coach Brendon Bolton's praise.
"The one thing he is – and this can sound a little bit lame for the type of player he is – but he's a role player, a very diligent role player," Bolton said of Wright.
"When you do that, you get rewards. He plays in a way that gives great lessons to our youngsters.
"Just stick to your role, don't try and do anything too different and you'll be rewarded. It's funny how footy pays you back when you do that."
Wright is relishing his leadership role, alongside spearhead Levi Casboult, in a young forward line that includes the likes of Charlie Curnow, Jack Silvagni and Jacob Weitering.
The leading-goalkicker gong was a nice reward for him a year after his career could have ended, but there is significant work to be done as a unit.
Carlton is averaging a league-worst 72.63 points for, more than seven fewer than bottom-of-the-ladder Brisbane, and is 16th in marks inside 50 and 17th in inside 50s.
"It's nice to win these sorts of accolades, (although) it would have been nice for a few more goals," Wright told AFL.com.au.
"But we're working really hard as a forward group to get even contributions week in, week out, so as long as we kick them we're not too fazed who's getting them."
The Blues are aware of their shortcomings on a developing list, but appear to be making strides behind a dedicated and stingy defence and a small group of established stars.
They won back-to-back matches over Sydney and Collingwood then hit the front in the last quarter against St Kilda on Saturday, only to fall 19 points short.
Carlton's next challenge is replicating last year's four-point defeat of the Dockers at Domain Stadium, when the teams clash at the same venue this weekend.
"We're playing some really good footy at the minute, as Freo are from the weekend – they had a great win (over Richmond) – so it's going to be a really good battle," Wright said.
"We're looking forward to going over there and playing our brand of footy, and we know when we can do that for four quarters it matches up pretty well against all sides."
