The Northern Bullants were unable to go one better than 2009 and once again finished runners-up in the VFL. A sluggish first quarter in the VFL Grand Final against North Ballarat at Etihad Stadium on Sunday put the Bullants in a tough position, one they were never able to recover from.

In fact by quarter time the game was as good as over with North Ballarat started the game in great style and by quarter time held a commanding 34-point lead, (6-5-41 to 1-1-7). The Bullants were able to steady the game in the second quarter, being outscored by just the one-point during the term to go into half-time 35-points down, (10-9-69 to 5-3-33).

A spirited fight back during the third quarter, with Brad Fisher kicking two goals, saw the Bullants to within 22-points at one stage but North Ballarat had all the answers and once again draw away to enjoy a 28-point lead at three-quarter time, (14-9-93 to 10-5-65).

North Ballarat had all the running in the final quarter kicking a further six goals to run out 47-point winners (20-13-133 to 13-8-86) to enjoy a third successive VFL premiership.

While a disappointing way to finish 2010, the Northern Bullants should be very proud of their efforts again this season.

“It’s definitely disappointing but no-one thought we’d make the grand final and it was a great effort to get there,” said Bullants coach David Teague after the game.
