BREANN Moody’s future is written in Navy Blue.

Having re-signed at IKON Park for a further two seasons, the All-Australian ruck was clear and concise in her message as to why she committed to the Blues: she couldn't picture herself anywhere else.

“I’ve signed on because Carlton is my home,” Moody said.

“It’s where I belong and I can’t see myself going anywhere else for footy or pulling on a different guernsey: I couldn’t even think of it, because it’s just not in me.”

An inaugural Game Changer and on the verge of 50 career games, Moody has been an ever-present in Navy Blue, adding her 2021 All Australian selection to a Carlton AFLW Best and Fairest in her second season.

She said that one of the biggest reasons she wanted to remain at Carlton was not only her teammates but also the coaching staff, having worked closely with ruck coach Shaun Hampson over the last year.

“We’ve got such a good core group and we’re still a very young side: hopefully we can get a fair bit of success going our way,” she said.

“Also, the coaching staff. I work very closely with Shaun Hampson who is our ruck coach and he’s staying on board, so I’m excited to work further with him.”

With the short turnaround and season seven being just around the corner, Moody has been staying fit and connected with her teammates in the lead-up to pre-season which officially kicked off on Tuesday night.

‘Unfinished business’ is something Moody believes she has gotten a bit too used to saying, but she does believe that the Game Changers will be able to use the momentum they have and take it into season seven.

“I can really feel we’re building something exciting and I can’t wait to see us continue that momentum,” she said.

“We have one of the youngest teams in the competition but that’s definitely a strength for us – we can shape these girls into the players we want them to be. I can’t wait to see what they bring.”

While Carlton does have one of the youngest lists in the AFLW competition, Moody believes an emerging, versatile midfield with an abundance young players will provide excitement in the upcoming campaign.

“Mimi Hill was obviously the Rising Star last year and I’m so excited by what she’s going to be able to do – she has come back stronger than anyone ever thought, so I’m super excited to see her,” she said.

“All the young girls that we’ve picked up like Keeley Sherar and Brooke Vickers, to see them grow their game a bit more and develop into women’s players as opposed to girls and junior players that they’ve come through the ranks with, I can’t wait.”
