SAM Durdin will make his Navy Blue debut tomorrow night.
Confirmed by AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss in his weekly press conference, Durdin will become the seventh new Blue in 2022, becoming Carlton player No.1231 in the process.
It marks a rapid rise for Durdin, who was working on a construction site in South Australia just weeks ago before being drafted out of Glenelg by the Blues in the NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
It won’t be Durdin’s first taste of AFL action, having played 22 games for North Melbourne after his debut in 2017, but it will be his maiden appearance in Navy Blue.
It’ll also be his first at the home of football, with a bumper crowd expected for the clash between Richmond and Carlton on Thursday night.
He had his opening appearance as a Blue last weekend, appearing for the Carlton Reserves just 10 days after he was drafted by the Club.
Speaking to media, Voss said Durdin was ready to step up in the absence of Caleb Marchbank, who it was confirmed yesterday would undergo knee surgery on a lateral meniscus tear.
“What a story that is. It’s his second chance and to be able to come back into the side after playing at Glenelg a couple of weeks ago, now he’s going to play against Richmond in front of an MCG crowd," Voss said.
“The first day he got in, he sat in front of the computer for three-and-a-half hours trying to learn what our style was.
“In the end, I just want him to go out there and back himself. He’s been exposed to this level before, he knows what it’s about and we expect he’ll go out there and give a really strong showing.”
