A THIRD consecutive game among the votes for midfielder Sam Walsh has elevated him into the top 15 of the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.
Despite missing Round 1 after ankle surgery, Walsh continued his climb alongside the competition’s elite with a five-vote performance against Collingwood on the weekend.
One of two Blues to poll in the narrow defeat to the Pies, Walsh’s brilliant form at the home of football specifically continued, amassing 35 disposals to go with his second-quarter goal.
He has averaged over 32 disposals in his last dozen appearances at the MCG since the beginning of last season, which is made all the more impressive given he attended less than half of the Blues’ centre bounces on Sunday in his new role.
Walsh was joined by Adam Cerra, who registered two votes for his slick performance on the weekend.
“The fight from the boys to stay involved in that game and take it right to the end [was good], but ultimately we weren’t playing our style for long enough.”

Adam Cerra opens up on the resilience that his side is building and fighting the Pies until the end.
Cerra was Carlton’s prime mover in the second term, where the team wrestled its way back into the contest as the game looked to be getting away from them.
The second quarter alone saw Cerra collect 12 disposals, four clearances and a goal on the way to a 30-possession performance.
