The Carlton Football Club can today announce Matthew Kennedy has extended his contract with the Blues until the end of 2025.
The 25-year-old midfielder joined the Club in 2018 after two years at GWS and has worked hard to solidify his spot in the Senior side.
Kennedy’s recent run of form comes off the back of a successful end to his 2021 campaign, where he featured in the final ten games for the Blues.
He was promoted back onto the senior list after the 2021 season and has opened 2022 with a run of blistering form including a career-high 33 disposals and 19 kicks in the Round 1 win over Richmond.
Kennedy has continually impressed throughout his opening seven matches so far this season, including collecting 30-plus disposals in three straight games for the first time in his career to kick off 2022.
While his work with the football has been eye-catching, it is his work without it and a team-first mentality to make those around him better which has further engrained Kennedy into the Blues 22.
Today’s announcement also coincides with the week the midfielder is set to make his 50th appearance in the Navy Blue when Carlton takes on GWS this Sunday.
Head of List Management Nick Austin said Kennedy had established himself as an integral member of the midfield group off the back of a mountain of hard work.
“Matt had a great pre-season and has effectively forced himself into a new-look midfield group this year,” Austin said.
“Since Matt returned to the senior side in the second half of 2021, he has been playing great football and putting in solid performances each week.
“His attitude to developing his own game as well as the team game has been instrumental to his career-best form, and he has an electric energy he brings to the group on and off the field.
“Matt has an appetite for hard work and continues to make the most of his opportunities when they arise, he has well and truly earned a long-term deal and we are excited to see him progress with this midfield group in the coming years.”
