CARLTON assistant coach Ash Hansen is insistent that the team won’t rest on their laurels against Port Adelaide this week.

Despite coming up against a winless outfit this week, Carlton is all too aware of the threat which Port possesses — a team which has made preliminary finals in the last two seasons, and beaten the Blues in their last six attempts.

Stressing the need for humility and consistency, Hansen said that the team would respect every opposition.

Speaking on FiveAA in South Australia, Hansen - looking ahead to Sunday’s game - said the Blues would be focusing on their own response after last week.

“We’ve got to discover our own response,” Hansen said.

“For the first time this year, the guys are coming off a loss where they were really disappointed with the performance. We see it as a fantastic opportunity to respond to our own game and get that back on track.

“We’ve got plenty to play for with our own season, and it’s another great challenge for the group to show the resilience they want to be known for.”

Earlier in the week, Jacob Weitering spoke of the last time the two sides met in Round 22 of last year, where the Blues were humbled on enemy territory.

After three consecutive wins to start the season followed by last week’s loss, Hansen said complacency wasn’t and would never be an option for a Carlton team looking to earn respect across the competition.

“It comes from our consistency week-to-week in how we prepare and respecting the opposition,” he said.

“The humility piece is quite big for us.

“The moment where you underestimate an opponent is the one where they’ll jump you.”
