The Carlton Football Club and Visy have announced the creation of a landmark sport and community precinct at Princes Park.

From today Visy Park will be the new official home base for the Carlton Football Club and will offer extensive, state-of-the-art training facilities in addition to community and education resources, with an emphasis on sustainability.

Visy and the Carlton Football Club today unveiled further details of the $18 million re-development and associated three year naming rights partnership. The State Government, City of Melbourne and the AFL are key stakeholders and funding partners in the redevelopment project which will create a multi-faceted super venue for sport, community and the environment.

At the heart of the Visy Park facility is a mutual commitment by the Carlton Football Club, Visy and funding partners to give back to the communities they operate in.

The planning for the redevelopment has focused on a range of elements to be incorporated into the new building, including high performance training, medical and rehabilitation areas, office facilities, community facilities and Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) initiatives

Visy Park’s sporting facilities will include: a large gymnasium, warm up area, lecture theatre and aquatic facilities for the Carlton Football Club as well as housing the Club’s player facilities and administration offices. When completed Visy Park will be the best facility of its kind in the AFL.

Visy Park will also feature community facilities including a 70-seat lecture theatre, meeting and function rooms, aquatic rehabilitation facilities, café and group exercise rooms.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann said: “This partnership illustrates our mutual commitment to being the best in our fields, while ensuring we retain strong community links and leadership on major issues facing our society.”

“The creation of Visy Park will allow our players to benefit from the very best facilities in the AFL competition, which we’re confident will improve our on-field performance. The facilities will also serve as a fantastic community hub within Princes Park and a high profile showcase for best practice in sustainability. The launch of Visy Park is a significant moment in Carlton’s history and marks an exciting new chapter for our Club.’

Commenting on the partnership, Visy Director of Sustainability Tony Gray said: “Our aim in establishing this partnership is to use public passion for football to educate, motivate and inspire young people to lead more sustainable lives through healthier lifestyle choices and increased environmental awareness.”

The announcement of the creation of Visy Park coincides with Carlton Captain Chris Judd becoming a community environmental ambassador for Visy.
